A versatile way to treat many imperfections with Porcelain Veneers that look like “real” teeth
When your teeth are “less than perfect,” you deserve to have cosmetic treatment that looks natural and does not appear “too perfect” (fake). At Premier Dental, Dr. Mauricio Rodriguez has the training in advanced techniques and the onsite technologies, and quality materials to improve your teeth in a way that best suits you (and the characteristics that make you one of a kind). Cosmetic procedures, such as porcelain veneers, are prepared and applied in such a way that the treated or veneered teeth are indistinguishable in color and overall appearance from surrounding, natural and healthy teeth.
Sink your teeth into the basics
Porcelain veneers are thin strips of dental ceramic. Dental porcelain is highly regarded; it replicates the characteristics and durability of natural tooth enamel. It also resists stains well. The porcelain is designed to replace damaged enamel. Damage shows up on the teeth as chips, and wear and tear. When the veneers are designed to each patient’s specifications and needs, they may be applied to the front surfaces of the natural teeth. The veneer is then bonded or fixed securely in place. So, it effectively covers up imperfections while replacing the outermost enamel surface of the tooth. In addition to the above conditions, veneers may be used to disguise:
- Stubborn stains and discoloration that resists whitening treatment
- Gaps, excess spaces between teeth
- Minor cracks
- Irregular contours
Modern veneers require little preparation. Only a small amount of the natural enamel must be removed to make room for the veneer. After the tooth is slightly reduced, an impression or model of the tooth to be treated (and surrounding teeth) is made. This impression serves as a guide in the fabrication of your permanent veneer. Generally, as the veneer is being made, a temporary or provisional veneer will be applied to protect the prepared site. Even minimal enamel reduction can produce some sensitivity. So, we want you to have the utmost comfort during every stage of treatment! After the permanent veneer is ready, Dr. Rodriguez will remove the temporary. He will place the permanent and assure everything looks and feels great before fixing the veneer to your natural tooth.
A lifetime of healthy, beautiful smiles
Veneers look and function like real teeth. Plus, they can be cared for like natural teeth. There are no special oral care products or techniques that are required to keep your veneers in great shape. We will discuss habits that can shorten the lifespan of your veneers prior to treatment. Habits such as chewing ice or other hard objects can damage dental work. So, modifications may be in order. Patients who brux or grind their teeth may be candidates for custom oral appliances that are worn to protect dental work from damage.
Veneers are thin handcrafted porcelain shields worn on the front of the tooth which improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained or worn. Veneers are thin as contact lenses, and are an aesthetically pleasing option of closing gaps, lengthening teeth, and providing symmetry to make your smile more natural. Veneers are intended to last for many years without changing color. They are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in dentistry. Ask your dentist if veneers may be right for you.
